Carpenter, Pullman, Washington, also accounts and tax receipts (1859-1889) of their father, Charles Higley Carpenter. The 1893 diary records service as guard at the Chicago Exposition and the guard's rule book is also included.

The World's Columbian Exposition, also known as the Chicago World’s Fair, was organized in celebration of the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s landing in America.
